Hurco is hosting cutting tool demonstrations of the Greenleaf-360 line of high-performance solid carbide end mills on the Takumi VC1052 three-axis machining center.
This is the debut of a proprietary flute design with a high-performance carbide substrate that enables fast and efficient material removal with less stress induced into the part.
In addition to the flute design, other benefits of the Greenleaf-360 end mills, according to Greenleaf Corporation, are the ability to effectively complete long-reach applications due to extended shank options; the versatility to machine various workpiece materials due to the combination of its high-performance substrate and coating; and the regrind to like-new capabilities.
The Takumi VC1052 running the new line of Greenleaf cutting tools is a 41.7 × 20.5 machine with a Z-axis travel of 24". Furthermore, the VC1052 has a 15,000 Big Plus spindle, rapids of 1,417 ipm and the FANUC 0i Plus control, in addition to all the benefits of Takumi’s exacting manufacturing and engineering standards.
According to Takumi USA, some examples of Takumi’s commitment to rigorous manufacturing processes that provide rigidity, accuracy and repeatability of its CNC machines include hand fitting and aligning each component, with over 35 components in the axis transmission and spindle assemblies fitted with hand scraping for alignment and fit. The ballscrews are anchored on both ends and pre-tensioned and the motors are directly coupled to the ballscrews. Additionally, the ballscrews are larger in diameter (1.57") for additional strength with a fine pitch (.472" per revolution) to increase accuracy. Finally, the machine table travels on six roller guides on the X-axis, further increasing rigidity.
