FPT North America Inc. highlights its TUDX head as one of the most versatile, interchangeable, cost-effective heads on the market. The design includes the bi-rotary axes that stay with the Z-axis RAM and the spindle automatically interchanges with different applications.
This is important as the moldmaking industry is changing rapidly in terms of concept-to-build time challenges toolmakers face as well as the quick turnaround times to customize their target CNC machines. What used to be a 24-month head start on tooling is often reduced to six months, thus pushing toolmakers to invest in over-the-shelf solutions that may not fit the purpose.
FPT says it has adapted to this changing need by configuring its automatically interchangeable roughing-finishing spindle head. Most significant, this can be delivered within six months.
The spindle can automatically change between the following:
- 8,000 rpm HSK100/CAT50 roughing head capable of up to 90 HP Power and 368 ft. lbs of torque
- 15,000 / 24,000 rpm HSK100/ HSK63 finishing heads up to 67 HP Power and 128 ft. lbs of torque
- Friction stir weld heads and turning heads and grinding heads
TUDX is a flexible head design that can be used in a variety of industries, such as moldmaking, that requires either multi-operation capability like roughing, finishing, welding, grinding on the same part without changing setups or in a multi-machining environment that needs to machine a variety of materials from composites to aluminum to Inconel.
