Cloud-Enabled Software Promotes Mold Strategy Improvements
IMTS 2024: Autodesk’s Fusion software suite is bigger, better and packed with more than 1,500 improvements for three- and five-axis CAM programming of molds.
Autodesk Inc. is showcasing its complete portfolio of “design and make” products, including the latest release of Autodesk Fusion, cloud-enabled software for designers, manufacturers and moldmakers.
This year alone, there have been eight major releases of Fusion, delivering more than 50 novel manufacturing features and 1,500+ improvements. IMTS 2024 gives the opportunity to meet with the Autodesk team and learn about the latest updates and what’s coming next, including:
AI-driven CAM programming tools, such as the integration of CAM Assist from CloudNC that can simplify the programming of parts by automatically selecting the best tools, strategies and cutting parameters — and all with a couple of mouse clicks.
Advanced machining strategies including tool paths (Blend and Geodesic) that provide increased levels of programming control and flexibility — especially useful when machining the complex geometries that are often found in molds and dies.
Of all the enhancements in recent releases, these strategies arguably deliver the greatest impact to moldmakers, as they enable CAM programmers to simplify part programming while also creating higher quality tool paths that achieve improved surface finishes, reducing the need for costly hand polishing after CNC machining.
Machine simulation that includes intelligent collision detection to identify collisions, near-misses and other machine-related errors using a digital twin, helping to avoid costly errors and delays.
Intelligent multi-axis machining strategies, such as five-axis Deburr, Advanced Swarf and Automatic 3+2 Area Clearance that can intelligently identify the most effective combination of tool orientations to rough a part.
AI-driven automatic drawing creation that can save up to 80% of the time that engineers spend creating critical 2D documentation. The increasing application of AI-based automation is already having a significant impact on manufacturers across industry sectors. Autodesk is confident applications of AI, such as automated drawing creation and CAM programming, will deliver increasing value to moldmakers and builders in the years to come.
