Molder’s World Inc. announces the development and availability of its next-generation Vortex, a self-venting mold steel specifically designed for injection molding applications. This was specifically in response to the discontinuation of Porcerax II, and the company’s realization that they were not only able to replace it, but to improve on the qualities the industry had come to rely on.
Vortex retains a system of interconnected pores with an average diameter of 7 microns (0.0003”) which are interspersed throughout the steel. These assist in eliminating gas buildup, reducing injection pressure, lowering cycle times, lowering gloss levels and reducing scrap and reject rates, enabling molders to save money in the process.
When compared to its predecessor, Porcerax II, Molder’s World says the Vortex is roughly 10% harder (43 HRc average), stronger (TR: 834 MPa), and less expensive than Porcerax II was prior to its discontinuation.
Though primarily used for speaker grill insert, interior automotive and medical applications across the globe, Vortex can be used in nearly every molding application where gas buildup is problematic. Vortex is available in a range of sizes from ¼ to 9 1/2”, as well as rectangles and self-venting core pins and plugs, including precision ground press fit vent pins and standard venting core pins.
Vortex has already been used in automotive and medical injection molding applications, as well as lost-core wax molds.
