Tech Molded Plastics receives Top Honors in the Plastics Industry

Members of the family-owned business were on hand to receive the Processor of the Year award on-behalf of the company. Brothers Scott, Mark and Doug Hanaway accepted the award, as well as their mother, Eva. "It's an incredible honor to have been selected as the award winner in an international field of peers," stated Mark Hanaway in the acceptance address.

"We are a second generation business that started on bare floors that were built with bare hands." Mark added, "The role models that we had in our lives exemplified the value of working hard. Our parents started living their American dream in 1973 with four young children, very little money, and a lot of motivation." Mark went on to credit the company's success to the core values handed down by their parents and the talented team of skilled professionals that make up their workforce.

Tech Molded Plastics celebrated its 40th year in business in 2013, and today, the company stands out as a leader in the competitive plastics and mold manufacturing industry. Now Tech Molded Plastics stands out on a larger stage, as winner of the Processor of the Year Award. The molder and mold-maker scored high marks from the judges on all the criteria, and was especially strong in four of the categories audited: financial performance, employee relations, technology and industry and public service. The Processor of the Year Award started in 1996 and has featured companies large and small that exhibit best in practice performance.

The family including; Scott, Doug, and Rusty are each toolmakers with a strong hands-on background. Mark went to college, studying business and organizational communications, accepting a career move into the banking industry in North Carolina. When their father died in 1998, he decided to return and help support the company's mission. Scott has been the CEO since the early 1990's. Mark and Doug are vice presidents. Youngest brother Rusty had started his own successful venture, EnviroTech Restoration, llc., prior to his untimely passing in 2011.

All three credit their parents for their values and direction in life. "If you wanted something, you had to earn it. As kids, paper routes, shoveling snow and lawn care for neighbors provided the means for the things we otherwise couldn't afford," said Doug. "Our parents were self-taught and worked through the hours that most people consider their down time. They expected the same of us." While starting the tooling business, Bill and Eva also ran a side business with a used backhoe to dig footers and septic systems in the area.
