DMG MORI USA’s new technology center in Somerville, Massachusetts will be a hub for research and development of new digitization solutions and processes for customers worldwide. The official grand opening is planned for April 12, 2022. An open house the following day will invite visitors to take a look behind the scenes. The 340 square-meter showroom will feature an NTX 1000, an NHX 4000, a DMU 60 eVo linear and a DMP 70.

“The growing economic development in the northeast USA makes Boston an ideal location for another DMG MORI subsidiary,” explains DMG MORI USA President Dr. Keiichi Ota. “Medical, aerospace and other high technology-driven companies are increasingly growing or locating in the region.” He adds, “The proximity to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Wentworth College and other technical universities will also help us to further advance our focus topics of automation and digitization.”

Similar to its innovation centers in Chicago, Illinois and Davis, California, DMG MORI Boston is intended to be an important place for research and development in these fields. In particular, digitization will be of major significance with the proximity to Tulip, a technology company with headquarters located next door and separated only by a roll-up door. Tulip’s no-code platform for creating apps has been used in DMG MORI's product portfolio since 2019, enabling the company to gain real-time visibility into its people, tools, machines and processes.

At DMG MORI Boston, ten application engineers are designing innovative manufacturing solutions before they go into operation at the customers’ site. Smooth processes are said to be ensured there by 24 service technicians and a team that guarantees rapid assistance via hotline. The installed machinery and simulators will also be used by DMG MORI Boston for training courses for employees and customers. DMG MORI Boston plans to hire young professionals with knowledge in future-oriented topics including digitization, artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing.
