The American Mold Builders Association (AMBA) commends the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for retaining the tariffs on imported molds, tooling and dies imported from China following its completion of the Section 301 tariff action review. This tariff of 25% on Chinese-made molds, tooling and dies, first put in place by the previous U.S. administration, continues to support manufacturing in the U.S..

“While hundreds of mold builders currently exist in the U.S., imports from lower price countries, such as China, continue to cause injury to the domestic industry,” says AMBA managing director Kym Conis. “The Section 301 trade action is a significant tool to ensure that the U.S. mold manufacturing industry remains healthy and globally competitive. American mold builders have the capacity, technical expertise and ability to deliver any molds ordered and we can attest that U.S. mold and die manufacturers stand ready to fill orders and put more Americans to work.”

AMBA looks forward to working with the current U.S. administration to strengthen manufacturing in the U.S. by increasing the tariff rate above 25% on Chinese molds and tooling to help ensure U.S. mold builders can continue to provide thousands of jobs across this country and supply plastic injection molds for decades to come.
