Technology Tuesday: EMO Wrap Up on EDM, Automation and Industry 4.0
EMO Hannover 2017 was a showcase for EDM developments, automation solutions and software for data-driven manufacturing. EDM technology is evolving through new machine designs, thermal stability, powerful generators, parts handling robots, linear handling systems and software solutions for future Industry 4.0 infrastructures.
Themed “Connecting Systems for Intelligent Production, the world's largest metalworking show, EMO 2017, had a strong focus on current manufacturing trends such as Industry 4.0, digitization and energy efficiency. I was on the look-out for what's new in EDM and automation technology and discovered some interesting product developments and innovations. Here's a snapshot from the showgrounds in Hannover, Germany.
EDM manufacturers and suppliers have responded to moldmakers’ requests to improve their productivity. EDM has become faster and more efficient using less electrodes, finer surface finishes can be achieved eliminating polishing time, and automation systems including intelligent user-friendly software and data consistency increase unattended machining hours.
