AAM President Scott Paul recalls that then the AAM was first formed back in 2007, its bread-and-butter issue was nowhere to be found in economic policy debates. “But after five years of grassroots advocacy, bus tours, town-hall meetings, and cutting-edge research, manufacturing is on the tip of everyone’s tongue these days,” he states. “What was the centerpiece of President Obama’s economic policy proposals during the 2012 State of the Union? Manufacturing. What was the most common image in political ads during last year’s presidential election? The American factory floor.”

Scott goes on to say that after losing millions of manufacturing jobs since the turn of the century, we’ve gained 500,000 since 2010. “Our manufacturing sector could be on its way back,” he says. “And here at AAM, we thought we’d take a moment to celebrate it.
