Post-show data is in for IMTS 2012, and the numbers confirm the feeling that was apparent on the show floor—IMTS was a high-energy show that brought in quality attendees to see the most innovative and dynamic technology available in the manufacturing technology industry, according to show sponsor AMT.
From a “tale of the tape” perspective, IMTS 2012 had 100,200 registrations, and people hailed from 112 countries. There were a total of 1,909 exhibitors, totaling 1,240,863 square feet over the four halls at McCormick Place. Exhibitors processed $3.5 billion in quotes, and 91 percent of visitors who came seeking a solution found a solution, according to a post-show survey conducted by AMT.

Of the industry groups represented, the largest percentage came from the Job, Tool, Mold & Die Shop sector, at 17.0 percent. That was followed by Metalworking Machinery & Equipment (16.7 percent) and Fabricated Metal Products (14.3 percent). Beyond that, everything was represented from Government & Military to Household Appliances.

The majority of visitors came from small to medium-sized plants—100-499 employees being the largest percent of responses at 26.4 percent, followed by less than 20 (24.5 percent) and 20-49 (18.5 percent).
The most popular technologies that attendees came to see were in the categories of Turning and Lathes; Machining Centers; Milling, Drilling or Boring Machines; and Tools and Tooling.
