I was honored to attend an Awards Ceremony the other day, hosted by Delcam—known for its CAD/CAM solutions for the mold manufacturing industry. The company recently added its 40,000th customer—Lifetime Products Inc.—to its list of more than 90,000 end users from around the world. “As a world leading manufacturer with products sold in more than 70 countries we are honored to be able to present this achievement to such a prestigious company as Lifetime Products Inc.,” says Delcam president Glenn McMinn. “They are a U.S. success story.”

The company manufactures a number of outdoor products from swing sets and basketball hoops, to lawn furniture and storage sheds, to kayaks and tent trailers—all designed and manufactured largely in the United States.

Dennis Norman, Mold Design Engineer at Lifetime, accepted the award. Its machine shop is staffed by 21 experienced machinists and is an integral part of Lifetime Products success. The machine shop purchased its first Mazak more than 20 years ago, which was just recently sold to make room for a new and bigger Mazak. Today the company owns four Mazak vertical machining centers, including 2 NEXUSVNC-510Cs, a NEXUSVCS-410A, a VTC-300C and a Mazak QuickTurn NEXUS (QTN) 300 turning center. All of the Mazak machines in Lifetime’s machine shop are made in Florence, Kentucky. This is important to Mower as the company strives to maximize its manufacturing facilities in the U.S.

Recently Lifetime expanded its offerings to include kayaks in its line of outdoor products. The company will use PTC/ProE for the design but wanted a state of the art CAM product to go with it. Since Lifetime’s designs can be quite extensive, the machine shop had to find something that would take the large files without difficulty, something that could compliment their current processes but extend their CAM capabilities. After reviewing a number of CADCAM companies Lifetime decided on Delcam.
