Cut-to-size metals and plastics provider Alro Steel announces an agreement to acquire Pottinger Steel in Racine, Wisconsin, with an expected close date of Nov. 3, 2023. This follows Alro’s other acquisitions this year, including Heimansohn Steel and Access Metals.

Pottinger Steel was founded in 1898 by Robert B. Pottinger as a blacksmith shop and general steel supplier. In 1970, the Pottinger family sold the company to Eugene Rinehart who grew the company to become an established steel service center. It has remained in the Rinehart family for more than 50 years, currently operating under the direction of Eric, Matt and Kim Rinehart. Pottinger offers a variety of metals, including carbon steel, alloys, stainless steel and aluminum, with same-day or next-day delivery in Wisconsin and Illinois.

According to the Pottinger Steel’s Rinehart family, “This acquisition will benefit our customers with expanded inventories of metals and additional processing capabilities.”

Alro Steel was founded in 1948 by brothers Al and Robert Glick and is celebrating 75 years in 2023. The company is a distributor of metals, industrial supplies and performance plastics. Alro is focused on offering cut-to-size metals and plastics with next-day delivery to over 50,000 customers in North America.

Alro operates more than 80 locations in 16 states and provides a broad inventory of products under the following companies: Alro Steel, Alro Metals, Alro Metals Outlet, Alro Industrial Supply and Alro Plastics.
