Throwback Thursday: How to Handle Your Heaviest Molds
Many companies use heavy-duty cranes to move molds through their shops, but the larger the molds get, the harder it must be to use a crane safely and efficiently.
Over the past year I’ve been visiting and writing about quite a few shops lately that build very large molds for automotive, consumer products such as appliances and for recycle bins. Many of the companies used heavy-duty cranes to move molds through their shops, but the larger the molds get, not to mention the plant floor, the harder it must be to use a crane safely and efficiently to perform mold changes or transport molds for maintenance or storage, right? That was my thinking anyway. Then, as I was searching for the article I wanted to feature this week on Throwback Thursday, this little gem caught my eye. It discusses the benefits of using wheeled transporter technology for moving large molds through one’s shop. Tips are provided, too, for what to look for when purchasing this type of system.
I hope you find this interesting, readers, and maybe you can also share any other solutions that you use for moving very large or awkward workpieces through your plants. Happy Thursday, and click here to read How to Handle Your Heaviest Molds (published in June 2007).
