Husky Technologies Vice President of Sales for Hot Runner and Controllers Sean Hoy reviews sustainability in bio-resin molding, custom side gating and valve gate technologies.

Sustainability encompasses not only creating eco-friendly molding products but also ensuring the processes involved in their design, manufacturing and validation are sustainable. This approach is critical, especially since many bio-resins are corrosive, requiring careful consideration in material selection and custom engineering for each hot runner system.

Husky has spent years developing systems to work with bio-resins, recognizing the challenge posed by the many combinations of bio-resin blends and applications. There's no one-size-fits-all solution, so each system must be specifically designed and validated.

A key feature of Husky's offerings includes side gating, which opens up new possibilities for molding certain parts, such as in the medical field. They’ve expanded their portfolio to offer more versatile solutions, including an eight-cluster side gate for specific medical applications.

Husky’s Ultra Helix valve gate design also stands out. This technology houses the valve stem within the tip, preventing degradation and improving service life—a feature increasingly used by moldmakers. Husky continues to emphasize proven technologies to support the long-term sustainability and performance of molding solutions.
