I was honored to be present when the AMBA awarded Ralph Oswald, CEO of Chicago Mold Engineering Co. (CME), its prestigious Mold Builder of the Year award for 2012 at its annual convention in Grand Rapids, MI, this past May. The award is sponsored by Progressive Components and  includes a $5,000 endowment for continuing education in moldmaking, which Oswald can present to the educational institution of his choice. The Tooling and Machining Association (TMA) Education Foundation and the Industrial Technology Department at East Leyden High School will split the endowment.

MMT knew Oswald—and CME—had what it takes to be a leader when the magazine chose CME as its Leadtime Leader back in 2007. The company’s niche in multi-cavity thermoset injection molds for automotive headlamp reflectors—along with their unwavering commitment to quality and customer service—helped land CME this accolade. Read more here.

Outgoing AMBA outgoing President Mike Armbrust presented the award, citing Oswald’s long commitment to the industry, the AMBA and technology, along with numerous other impressive credentials. Over his 52 years in the industry, Oswald continually has demonstrated his leadership abilities to employees and competitors alike, often extending Chicago Mold’s helping hand in the area of manufacturing capabilities to other shops less equipped, notes AMBA Managing Director Kym Conis.

Congratulations to Oswald—and CME—for remaining on the cutting edge of the mold manufacturing industry and emerging as a leader for other shops to emulate!
