John Beaumont made his mark in the industry through his deep involvement in, and teaching of, injection molding technologies and engineering. He is an author, former Program Chair for Penn State Erie’s Plastics Engineering Technology program; he is President and CEO of Beaumont Technologies and his biography reflects his tireless contributions to educating both our current and future workforce. He was also recently nominated into the Society of Plastics Engineers’ prestigious Plastics Hall of Fame. Beaumont has yet one more accomplishment to add to his long list: He has announced the first graduating class from his newly founded American Injection Molding Institute (AIM).

Beaumont established the AIM Institute in 2014 after leaving his chairmanship position at Penn State Erie. In February 2015, the first class, called Plastics Technology and Engineering (PTE), began and was sold out. By December the integrated, multi-course program concluded with a final exam and several happy graduates.

New graduate Rene Menjivar, program manager from Viking Plastics, enjoyed the challenge and learning experience. “The instructors are some of the most respected men in the plastics industry. We were able to learn materials from Mike Sepe, processing from John Bozzelli, and were taught by Dave Hoffman and Mr. Beaumont as well. This has been such a great learning experience and honor to have learned under some of the most recognized names in the industry. The quality of the instructors gives the AIM Institute even more validity.”

According to John Beaumont, “The mission of the Institute is to help advance the injection molding industry by delivering high-quality science, engineering, and technology-based educational programs developed specifically for practicing professionals. The unique multi-course PTE certificate program is a first of a kind. The program is designed to provide high level foundational knowledge to help its graduates to use critical thinking to solve problems and to be more innovative in the development and manufacture of plastic products.”

The PTE certificate program focuses on four essential components of an injection molded plastic product: Plastic Materials, Plastics Mold Design and Engineering, Plastic Injection Molding and Plastics Part Design. The program comprises lectures, labs, exercises and projects that together provide a deeper understanding of the four essential aspects and how they interrelate with one another and influence the outcome of the final plastic product.

To learn more, MMT’s sister publication, Plastics Technology, featured the AIM Institute in its March issue after Beaumont announced its creation at NPE2015 in Orlando.
