Micro Inspection at Matrix Tooling
Various inspection and measurement resources help a moldmaker produce tooling for tiny molded parts.
Gary Johansson, VP of quality for Matrix Tooling of Wood Dale, Illinois, describes the various inspection technologies Matrix uses to measure tiny part features. Matrix makes injection molds for small, precision plastic parts, and it proves out these molds by molding the tiny parts within its own facility. The inspection resources used include microscope viewing within the machine tool, 3D stereoscope examination and video measurement. Also, a cross-sectional scanner is used for destructive measurement of the molded parts.
