Rough and Mirror-Finish Face Milling Performed with Same Cutter
Live demonstrations will be given for YG-1’s FM10 PNMU indexable inserts and cutter at IMTS 2022, displaying the cutting tool’s ability to face mill and ensure a high surface finish in the same cutter, an important benefit for mold builders.
Global cutting tool company YG-1 Tool Co. announces that it is giving face milling a whole new dimension with the FM10 PNMU indexable inserts and cutter. This latest innovation from YG-1 provides rough face milling with high removal rates and optimized surface finishes with the same insert and cutter, an ability that is not typically available for most mold builders or general metalworkers but is considered the single most important benefit of the product for these end users, particularly as it reduces cycle time and enables control over insert inventory.
With 10 true cutting edges, the FM10 is said to achieve 30% higher feed rates than the typical 45° face mill. In addition, it is able to achieve surface finishes in the low double-digit (or better) Ra — well beyond what any other roughing cutter can do, YG-1 claims.
For instance, in a roughing application, the company says the FM10 produced a finish of ~Ra 22μin at an MMR of 79.1 in3/min. Moreover, using the same cutter and inserts — with used edges — the cutting tool was able to produce a finish of Ra 6.2μin, emphasizing the one-tool face milling product’s productivity and versatility.
YG-1 will be at IMTS 2022 in booth #431400 with live demonstrations of the FM10 PNMU face milling indexable insert and many other innovative cutting tool solutions on display.
