Buildup in plastic injection molding is a common occurrence that can be caused by a number of factors including excess resin, outgassing, dirt, residue discoloration, additives and/or overall poor venting of excess volatiles. Accumulation increases venting concerns, then contributes to more staining that could trigger gloss and sticking issues. The outcome is downtime and higher scrap rates, resulting in lost revenue.

Slide Products’ Nexgen Mold Cleaner is formulated to offer more cleaning strength than other “natural” mold cleaners, while quickly but efficiently breaking down resin deposits. The mold cleaner does not use chlorinated solvents and comes in 1-, 5- and 55-gallon cylinders. Flush cleaning the mold with X-empt Injection Mold Cleaner, a fast-evaporating, single-purpose mold cleaner formulation, or Mold Cleaner 4 — good for removal of silicones, grease, oil and wax buildup — after scrubbing off any buildup will reportedly produce a flash off for a “no touch” finish. The video above breaks down this procedure.

Another common issue involves untreated stains that can trap resin and become a magnet for buildup of additional contaminants — an invitation for further corrosion and rust. The Nexgen Mold Cleaner is also particularly useful in removing stains for which everything else has failed, Slide Products contends.
