This week’s Throwback Thursday article was published in the October 2009 issue of MoldMaking Technology. Its author, the late Steven J. Bales, president of Bales Mold Service (now Bales Metal Surface Solutions) shares his wealth of knowledge about using surface coatings to prolong the life of molds. Because aluminum is still very popular in the industry for building both prototype and production molds, I thought a refresher about how to optimize aluminum molds using electroless nickel, nickel-PTFE, or other surface treatments would be of interest. There’s a very informative chart included, too.
