Watch Machine-Hammer Peening Demonstration
In January, Accurapuls Canada provided a detailed rundown on machine-hammer peening. The feature included a review of polishing and a video demonstration showing the surface of a mold before and after it is peened. Video and image courtesy of Accurapuls Canada.
This is what a part-to-CAD overlay would look like. 3D ProScan uploads the .STP file of the part and then lays the scan data over it. The rainbow-like scale on the right-hand side indicates how far away one is, in a positive and negative direction, from nominal tolerance requirements. Here, the blemish is an area with sink. The darker blue or purple the color, the deeper the hole. Reds indicate excess material or flash. Warp is another issue that can be highlighted using CT scanning technology. In this video clip, Slide Products demonstrates using mold release. The company recommends that the user spray every seventh or eighth shot if he or she has been spraying after every sixth shot. Integrity Tool and Mold built this instrument panel substrate mold at its Queretaro, Mexico plant. Making molds in Mexico is a significant part of what Integrity Tool & Mold Inc. is focused on. The Windsor, Canada-based company has not one, but two facilities in Querétaro, Mexico, both of which are used to manufacture, repair and maintain injection molds for customers doing production there. While this is a promotional video, we thought it was perfect for illustrating how some companies are making molds in the Southern-most region of North America. As mold designs become more complex, software must be easier to use and offer a wider range of applications, including the ability to automate processes by creating high quality, predictable CNC machining code with minimal human input and risk of human error.
