National Manufacturing Day Is Now Manufacturing Month!

Reports state that last Friday more than 200 manufacturing companies participated in the first annual Manufacturing Day--a national event highlighting the value of manufacturing to the U.S. economy as well as its available, highly skilled careers. Manufacturers across the nation opened their doors to the public to host open houses, public tours and career workshops. This response prompted an extension of the Day into in the entire month of October.

Reports state that last Friday more than 200 manufacturing companies participated in the first annual Manufacturing Day--a national event highlighting the value of manufacturing to the U.S. economy as well as its available, highly skilled careers. This response prompted an extension of the Day into in the entire month of October.

Manufacturers across the nation opened their doors to the public to provide tours for small groups of interested studentssponsored to help pay the cost to transport students; technical schools gave tours and information; legislators helped promote the importance of this effort; and, guidance counselors and school administrators promoted this important event both to the students and their parents.

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute, the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International and the U.S. Commerce Department's Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, are the event's co-producers.
