At Amerimold 2021, Westminster Tool is showcasing its newly revamped service offerings as part of its Quality Defining Design Process that analyzes plastic part quality requirements upfront in the mold building design phase. The traditional approach focuses primarily on dimensioning needs of the tool itself, but Westminster Tool says it goes beyond this by placing emphasis on getting a dimensionally stable plastic part that meets tight tolerances shot after shot for millions of cycles.

The company’s research into its own mold building processes has shown that an extra week of design saved more than three weeks of time spent troubleshooting, saving the company two to three times the cost associated with rework and remanufacturing. This in turn mitigated the risks during design leads for dramatically easier, cheaper and faster fixes than those found down the road during inspection.

The Defining Quality Phase of the design for manufacture process include services such as Moldflow Analysis, Dimensional Risk Analysis, CT scan and reverse engineering, CpK analysis, as well as value-add services on the back end of mold building through tool sampling and an MFAT/capability study. Its engineering-centric, data-driven approach reportedly gives Westminster Tool critical insight into the fit, form and function of the final part to better understand a customer’s needs early on.

The company will be introducing attendees to the company’s revamped approach in addition to providing valuable examples, part comparisons and insight gathered from their project research.
