Hwacheon Machinery America Inc. highlights the Sirius-Um+, its vertical machining center (VMC) with a 500-mm Y-axis for complex applications. Equipped with a wide selection of built-in motor spindle options ranging from 20,000 to 45,000 rpm, the company says it is designed to cater to even the highest requirements in mold and die sector as well as medical applications.
The Sirius-Um+ machine offers stability, thermal and vibrational control and high accuracy (ability to machine complex shapes). For moldmaking, it enables control of both heat and frictional heat from inside and outside to avoid imperfections in the mold during processing.
Hwacheon says that the Sirius-Um+ provides machining accuracy down to the last micron. The spindle integrates with Hwacheon’s patented oil-jet lubrication technology to offer high performance and power during roughing, providing fine surface machining results even during long operational cycle times. Additionally, the short distance between the spindle and the body enables the machine to stay stable after prolonged hours of operation. With travels of 29.53″ × 19.69″ × 17.72″, the Sirius-Um+ is said to offer a competitive advantage for high-precision applications.
The Sirius-Um+ distributes the vibration, weight and heat throughout the entire frame. Finite element analysis methods help to minimize the frame distortion which may be caused by machining conditions or environment. Before final finish passes, these VMC machines can, with the Hwacheon thermal displacement control (HTDC) system software, dynamically compensate for any changes that may have occurred in machine kinematics due to temperature, vibration or changes in the tool itself.
