Automated Measurement Software Accelerates Workpiece Control
IMTS 2024: Blum-Novotest announces the FormControl X measurement software, which includes an alignment function that can interact with unmanned operations and in cooperation with robotic solutions.
Blum-Novotest Inc. introduces the FormControl X, a user-friendly measurement software for machining centers, designed for automated quality control of workpieces in individual and series production. It can enable maximum productivity and reduce scrap by monitoring measurements. The software can also enable automated monitoring of machining processes in line with the principle of statistical process control (SPC). The process is managed based on the recorded measured values and previously defined warning and control limits.
The FormControl X alignment function interacts with unmanned operation and in cooperation with robot solutions. This feature detects the current workpiece position and alignment right after clamping and automatically adjusts the reference points of the machining program to the actual position of the workpiece. This can make reliable, automated machining of parts with small allowances possible. FormControl X also prepares the recorded data in graphic format that can be visualized and evaluated by the operator using the web browsers of any end devices. The company says that FormControl X accelerates manufacturing processes, makes them more transparent, increases quality and optimizes manufacturing cost.

- The Blum SPC, which processes data so that it is evaluated live or very quickly. This serves as a control variable for optimizing the process. FormControl X is adjusts based on the recorded measurement data so that the machining process always remains within predefined limits.
- An Alignment Function enables the creation of a reference between the physical workpiece and the CAD coordinate system. To do this, the position of the workpiece does not need to be changed manually, but instead FormControl X generates a new, modified workpiece coordinate system.
- FormControl X is a server-based solution with full online capabilities. This allows users to access reports and alerts from a variety of connected devices. One person can more easily manage multiple machines or automated work setups.
