Additive technology continues to gain steam for actual industrial applications that could make a real impact on manufacturing processes, including moldmaking. Efforts in this area deserve a bright spotlight, and two organizations are now attempting to provide one via an award competition that aims to highlight additive technology breakthroughs.

The International Additive Manufacturing Award (IAMA) competition is the brainchild of two industry organizations: AMT—the Association For Manufacturing Technology, and VDW, the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association. The stated goal is to “recognize the world’s best innovations in the growing expanse of additive processes in all areas of modern manufacturing.” The winner will receive a $20,000 cash prize as well as $80,000 toward promoting the development. Gardner Business Media, publisher of MoldMaking Technology, is among the contest's media sponsors.

The application deadline is December 31, and the award will be presented at this year’s MFG Meeting in March in Orlando, Florida. Visit additive-award.com for more information on the contest, and AMT's website for details about the announcement and comments from organizers.
